HOW TO WEAR A WEDDING VEIL
LEARN HOW VEIL PLACEMENT CAN HAVE AN EFFECT ON YOUR WEDDING DAY LOOK.
High or low
I know, it was already daunting to decide between raw edge or embellishment, short or long, blusher or no blusher and now you have one more fork in the road — placement. Here we’ll explore how to wear your wedding veil.
Veil placement matters— one way says chic and understated elegance and the other creates a glam effect. Let’s break it down by creating two different vibes with the same veil.
I’ve chosen a minimalist, raw edge veil in cathedral length without a blusher to give you a clear visual. Note, these rules mostly apply to our standard veils, not a drop veil, as a drop veil will essentially have one placement option.
LOW PLACEMENT
It nestles perfectly over a simple hair bun or low up-do creating an effortless effect and low volume silhouette. Here, the veil is part of your look but is less apparent from front views— an unexpected accent when you turn around. Aesthetically, wearing your veil lower alludes elegance with ease. It looks and feels effortless because it stays back and away from your face.
EARRINGS X LOW PLACEMENT
The veil lends depth from the back meaning your earrings can create a statement from the front. If you’ve selected a statement earring, or simply your earrings are an important part of your look, then I highly recommend wearing your veil lower so they’ll still be seen. But too, even some small studs can have a moment here. In all, this option lends the most options for your earrings.
HIGH PLACEMENT
I actually love this with hair down and loose waves framing your face. The higher placement creates a fashion-forward, almost glam moment for your wedding day. The volume of the veil is highlighted and the veil itself becomes a prominent part of your look from the front. Do note, wearing it high means the sides of the veil will cascade around your face so if you think that might be bothersome or distracting, this placement might not be for you.
HIGH PLACEMENT X ACCESSORIES
With the higher placement, your veil is the focal point and earrings become less of a priority (at least during the ceremony). So what details elevate and work seamlessly into this styling? If you’re craving EXTRA then consider a statement necklace. This accessory will catch the eye and naturally draw attention to your face. I love finishing the look with a pair of studs or a demure drop earring. Together, this combination of accessories maintains balance with the higher placement veil.
